You're right. It's ridiculous. I was very disappointed when I made an appointment with Panasonic to speak with someone and get demos. The fellow who I was supposed to interview wasn't there, and they had no Internet.

Yes, you can call other Skype users no matter where they are (PC or TV, and I imagine mobile). I haven't heard about the Viera TV sets only connecting to other sets, but can do a little research.

No, it's not open Internet. There's no browser. Just certain widgets that Panasonic creates. They are adding new ones in the next month like Skype (it wasn't released yet), Twitter and Facebook. I think most manufacturers will use widgets or apps and not the full Internet. Think they are too scared to open it up, but that can change.

At the IPTV World Forum show, I saw a new STB with an Intel chip that allowed full Internet access with a browser. It's not available yet, but just a demo. Not sure it will go retail, either.

It's hilarious that they had no internet connection at a demo of internet enabled TV's! So can Skype calls be made from the TV to other Skype users on a computer or iPhone? I'm sure I read something (on the European models at least) that you could only call another Viera TV which seems crazy.
Also, are you able to browse the whole web or are you restricted to certain widget style apps?
