Is this another Microsoft advertising campaign? During a recent pay per view, UFC fighter Rashad Evans wore a T-shirt with a picture of Bill Gate’s mug shot after a fight recently. I’d like to present evidence A below:
The pictures are of Gates’ arrest in New Mexico when he was in college. Another blog also noticed this and thought it was good. Normally, fighters wear T-shirt from sponsors, but Evans’ shirt seemed a bit subtle.
Unless it was part of Microsoft’s new ad campaign. Or perhaps Evans just bought a T-shirt with Bill Gate’s picture on it? I thought I would investigate.
I found a web site that interviewed Evans after the fight and where he clarified why he wore the T-shirt:
As for the T-shirt, Evans said it was also an inside joke with the team.
“That shirt, it’s [Gates'] mugshot,” Evans said. “He was arrested in Albuquerque, N.M. He started off Microsoft in the basement of the Bank One Building. That’s right next to the (Team Jackson) gym.
That’s the only association right now, but the team is hopeful Gates could become more involved with Team Jackson someday.
“Maybe one day he’ll be part of my crew,” Evans joked.
Well, perhaps one day. So the mystery is solved. It was just a lark and it looks like anyone can just download Bill’s mug shot and slap it on a T-shirt, since I didn’t find any stores that sold it.
But why shouldn’t Microsoft start sponsoring fighters? Wouldn’t it be great to see new Microsoft ads on their shorts next to ads from Tap Out, Jesus Didn’t Tap and Condom Depot? (Yes, these are just some of the actual advertisers that pay to put their logos on the backsides of shorts.)
